(Military) breast badge in silver-gilt and enamels, complete with ribbon buckle; India General Service 1895-1902, 2 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98 (Captn., Comst. Transpt. Dept.); China 1900, 1 clasp, Relief of Pekin (Major, S. & T. Corps.); 1914 Star (Col., S. & T. Corps.); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. (Lt-Col., Irrgn. Dte.); Delhi Durbar 1911; U.S.A., Military Order of the Dragon (Maj., Supply & Transport Corps. No. 418) complete with original ribbon and Pagoda top brooch, good very fine and better (8)

William Arthur Cripps was born in 1862 and first commissioned, from Sandhurst, on 9 September 1882, as Lieutenant, Leinster Regiment. Transferred to the Indian Army in 1885 and, after a short period with the 20th N.I., to the Bengal Commissariat Department in 1888. He served on the North West Frontier of India in the 1st Miranzai expedition 1891; in Tirah 1897-98, operations in the Bazar Valley 25-30 December 1897 (Medal with 2 clasps); China 1900, Relief of Peking (Medal with clasp. Mentioned in despatch of Lt-Gen Sir Alfred Gaselee , dated Peking 17 January 1901, London Gazette 14 May 1901); War of 1914-19, operations in France and Belgium from 24 August 1914 to 25 September 1915; Assistant Director of Supplies, Lahore Division; operations in Mesopotamia from December 1915 (Despatches London Gazette 1 January 1916, and created a Companion of the Bath). Colonel Cripps retired on 13 November 1920, and died on 29 January 1945.
