Flight Lieutenant Steven Edward Frederick Curry was a pilot serving with No. 51 Squadron at R.A.F. Dishforth which operated Whitley bombers. He was killed in action, aged 24, during a bombing raid against Gelsenkirchen on the night of19th/20th July 1940. An unconfirmed report suggests that they were attacked by a night fighter flown by Oblt. Werner Streib of NJG 1. The aircraft crashed at Ibbenburen, 20km west of Osnabruck in Germany, and the deceased crew were buried in a collective grave in Ibbenburen, but were later relocated to the Reichwald Forest War Cemetery. Sold with further details including copies from the Squadron Operations Record Book.
