Nicholas Tyacke was born at Constantine, Cornwall, in 1866 and was appointed Surgeon Lieutenant in 1892. He served as Captain, R.A.M.C., on the Punjab Frontier in 1897-98; South Africa 1899-1902, at the Relief of Ladysmith, including the operations of 17-24 January 1900 and action at Spion Kop; operations of 5-7 February 1900 and action at Vaal Kranz; on the Tugela Heights 14-17 February 1900 and action at Pieters Hill; in the Transvaal in June 1900; in Natal March-June 1900 including action at Laing’s Nek. He was mentioned in Buller’s despatches of 30 March and 9 November 1900, and London Gazette 8 February 1901. He is shown as having been in Medical charge of the Royal Lancaster Regiment. Served in the Great War and was appointed Temporary Colonel, whilst A.D.M.S. of a Division, 13 September 1915. He was mentioned in despatches by Field Marshal French London Gazette 1 January 1916.
