R.H.S. Case 43,380 ‘At 10p.m. on the 13th April, 1917, a boat with two men on board was capsized at Kilwa Kisiwani (East Africa), the night being dark and danger from sharks. Pte. Leonard Ramm, R.M.L.I., jumped overboard from his ship and rescued one of the men.’ It is recorded that he rescued the Chief Engineer of the tug “Garth”. Sold with a copy of his Royal Marine service history which shows that he was on ‘Special Service, East Africa’ and that he transferred to the Royal Navy as a Stoker in April 1919. He transferred to the Royal Air Force some time later and was posted to Iraq from October 1928 to February 1930.
