D.S.M. London Gazette 15 December 1919 “The following awards have been approved.”

Awarded for services with the Naval Armoured Train in Siberia in August 1918, and in particular for the Battle of Dukhovskaya on 23 August 1918.

Naval and Royal Marine Light Infantry personnel were landed from H.M.S. SUFFOLK during the Ussuri River operations and assisted the infantry in the actions against the Bolshevik troops. An account of the operations of the 25th Bn. Middlesex Regiment and Naval participation in the action, especially that of the Battle of Dukhovskay 23 August 1918, is to be found in the volume “The Diehards in the Great War” Vol.II by E. Wyrall, and references to the various Siberian actions is also found in “Britain's Sea Soldiers, a record of the Royal Marines during the war of 1914-1919” by Sir H. E. Blumberg.
