Approximately 68 medals with this clasp combination to the ship.
Charles Hoare was born in Sherborne, Dorset, on 9 March 1860. First entered as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S. ST VINCENT on 16 February 1876, and advanced to Boy 1st Class in February 1877. Subsequently served aboard H.M. Ships BLANCHE (1877-81) where he was advanced to Ord during April 1879 and to A.B. in April 1881, NEPTUNE (1884-85) where he was made a Leading Seaman in April 1995, and for the short period aboard DEVASTATION when was advanced to P.O. 2nd Class during August 1885, ORION (1888-90) receiving advancement to P.O. 1st Class during July 1888, ROYAL SOVEREIGN (1892-94), ST GEORGE (25 October 1894 to 11 May 1897) where he earned the two awards during the African Campaigns. He received his pension from 16 March 1898 but signed on to continue his career as an A.B. (Pensioner) until finally discharged to shore on 30 April 1905. He lost one G.C.B., and the chance of his L.S. & G.C. medal.
