Born in Havant, Hants, on 2 June 1854, Thomas Rushbridge first entered the service as a Lamptrimmer aboard H.M.S. JUMNA on 8 September 1872, but changed his branch when joining as a Stoker 2nd Class aboard his next vessel H.M.S. ASIA in June 1873. Subsequently served aboard H.M. Ships IMMORTALITE (1874-77) where he was advanced to Stoker during May 1874 and finally TYNE (18 September 1881 to 6 January 1885). He died whilst serving aboard H.M.S. ASIA on 24 January 1887. Not a good character, sent to Lewes Prison on three occasions in 1885, lost good conduct badges on three occasions and was sentenced to cells on two other occasions. He did not deserve a L.S. & G.C. award.
