Thomas Scott was born in Birmingham on 13 April 1838. He first entered the service as Acting Assistant Engineer 3rd Class on 4 May 1861 aboard H.M.S. FISGARD, rising to Assistant Engineer 1st Class in December 1864. Received further promotion to Acting Engineer in April 1868 whilst serving a seagoing commission in Pacific waters aboard H.M.S. TOPAZE (1866-69). Served aboard H.M.S. REVENGE (1872-74) prior to an appointment to H.M.S. EGERIA on 2 November 1874 for his only full commission at sea as an Engineer, which ended on 18 April 1878. He passed his examination for Chief Engineer on 16 January 1881 and was retired as a Chief Engineer 19 April 1888. He died aged 87 years of a disease of the bladder on 7 May 1925.
