Ex Day Collection 1910 - ‘Purchased by Mr Day from family of recipient, John Flynn, one of the gun-boats crew who obtained the Sultan’s medal for service at the Sulina, mouth of the Danube between 7th July and 19th August 1854.’

The Turkish General Service medal was awarded to Lieutenant H. C. Glynn of H.M.S. BRITANNIA, and a party of up to 30 seamen, including John Flynn, for participating in the bridging of the Danube at Giurgevo and in manning Turkish gunboats in the vicinity.
