Four: China 1842 (Edward Spearing, H.M.S. North Star); New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated ‘1845 to 1846’ (Ordy. H.M.S. North Star); Crimea 1854-55, 2 clasps, Sebastopol, Azoff; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, these last two unnamed as issued, contact marks, therefore nearly very fine or better and a scarce group (4)

Edward Spearing was born in Gosport, Hampshire, in 1825. He served in China as Boy 1st Class, in New Zealand as an Ordinary Seaman, and in the Crimean and Azoff operations as Captain’s Coxwain aboard H.M.S. SWALLOW. He was invalided from the service after 14 years adult service in 1859.
