Royal Naval Georgian Midshipman’s Dirk, c1825 the curved blade aprroximately 16” has a pipe back and 6” spear point, both sides are fully decorated with alternate etched and blue and gilt panels, trophies or arms, flags and floral sprays, the gilt cross piece with swept quillons and pierced ‘half-shell’, this containing a chiselled merman blowing a conch shell, the chequered ivory grip with decorated gilt bottom band and backstrap; the gilt metal scabbard has a ball finial and is engraved on the obverse only with floral and geometric panels, about 50% blue and gilt remains, some 70% gilt on other relevant areas, a large chip to the ivory panel the backstrap loose and the chain ‘hand-guard’ missing, scabbard liners if fitted now missing. £500-700
