Royal Humane Society, small bronze medal (unsuccessful) (Walter Clarke, 15th Feby. 1932) complete with ribbon buckle brooch and contained in original Elkington & Co. Ltd. case of issue; together with related award certificate and British War and Victory Medal pair (306889 Pte. W. Clarke, W. Rid. R.) extremely fine (3) £70-90

Royal Humane Society Case 51,095 (Walter Clarke, aged 36). ‘At Valley Mills, Nelson, Lancashire on 15 February 1932. James Hargreaves went down the mill sewer to work and being overcome by gas collapsed. Sewer 9 feet deep, manhole 2 feet by 1 foot 3 inhes. Clarke ran to this place and going down with a rope was also overcome. Holden then went down but had to be helped out. Barker then went down and put a rope round Clarke who was hauled out. With the assistance of Bees’ (Bronze medals (Unsuccessful) to Clarke and Holden, Bronze Medal (Successful) to Barker).
