Stanley Reginald Evans was an original member of the 8th (Service ) Bn. and accompanied it to France in May 1915 as a Sgt. in “D” Coy. He was wounded in the Fire Attack at Hooge, 31 July 1915, commissioned 25 October 1916 and rejoined the 8th R.B. to command his old platoon in January 1917. His patrol work is mentioned in the War Diary. He was Mentioned in Despatches by Sir Douglas Haig, 7 November 1917. Employed Ministry of Labour 1918 and invalided May 1919. He was a timber merchant in Winchester and was elected Mayor of Winchester in 1950. He died in 1961.
