18th Century, Warwickshire, Birmingham, The Birmingham Associations, Penny, 1798, presentation of colours to troops, reverse disappearing line of corpses hanging on gibbets, END OF BUNEPART AND THE FRENCH ARMY, edge plain (DH 29). Extremely fine, but reverse unevenly toned and has been lightly lacquered, very rare and interesting (£200-250)

The cataloguer can only recall two other specimens auctioned in recent years, namely those in the ‘Warwickshire’ collection (lot 231), and in the Jan collection (Pt. 2, lot 94), both of which sold for £500 each.

The colours were presented to the Birmingham Association on Birmingham Heath, 4 June 1798
