Queen Christina (1626-89) acceded to the throne at the age of 6 when her father, Gustav II Adolf, was killed in 1632. She abdicated in favour of her cousin, Charles X, in 1654, became a Roman Catholic and moved to Rome, where she spent the rest of her life as a patron of arts and learning
