Sweden, Queen Christina, c.1660, a bronze medal after M. Soldani-Benzi, bust right, wearing loose shift fastened on shoulder, rev. Roma seated left on trophy of arms, holding Victory, 62mm (cf. Clifford 248). Pierced, otherwise very fine, rare (£200-250)

Queen Christina (1626-89) acceded to the throne at the age of 6 when her father, Gustav II Adolf, was killed in 1632. She abdicated in favour of her cousin, Charles X, in 1654, became a Roman Catholic and moved to Rome, where she spent the rest of her life as a patron of arts and learning
