France, The Dismissal of Jacques Necker, 1789, a bronze medal by B. Duvivier, bust left, rev. legend in wreath, 41mm (BDM I, 687). Very fine, reverse better (£40-60)

Jacques Necker (1732-1804), Geneva-born wealthy Protestant banker in Paris, who headed the French financial administration from 1776-81 and 1788-90. His abrupt, yet temporary dismissal from office on 11 July 1789 led to the storming of the Bastille three days later
