Charles I (1625-1649), Newark, Shilling, 1646, small jewelled crown with ten pearls either side of orb, 5.41g (Hird 255-9; SCBI Brooker 1225, same dies; N 2640; S 3143). Pierced, obverse good fine, reverse fair and scratched (£90-120)

The wear and general appearance of the reverse would suggest that this coin was worn as a Royalist talisman, the obverse side uppermost
