Augustus (27 BC-AD 14), Denarius, 17-16 BC, Colonia Patricia, bare head right, rev. Mars standing left, holding vertical vexillum, 3.52g (RIC 150a; BMC 438; Sear 1641). Obverse fine but surface porous, reverse good fine, toned, rare (£90-120)

The issue refers to the vows undertaken to Jupiter Maximus for the health and safe return of Augustus prior to his departure for Gaul in 16 BC
