Sir George James Frampton, ARA (1860-1928), London sculptor of international renown; entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1881; multiple prize winner, graduating in 1887 with the Academy’s gold medal and £200; studied sculpture in Paris under Mercié and began exhibiting at the Salon in 1889 and the Royal Academy in 1890; designed several medals, including the Winchester Quincentenary, 1893, Glasgow University, 1895, Charles Keene, 1897, and City Imperial Volunteers, 1901; among his many statues in England and throughout the world are several memorials of Victoria, and the lions at the entrance to the exterior of the British Museum
