Netherlands, the Chamberlain’s Key which once belonged to Aeneas, Baron Mackay d’Ophemert, a silver-gilt openwork ornate key, surmounted by a crown and incorporating the monogram of William II, 142 x 47mm, with blue ribbon and additional orange sash. Very fine and of the highest rarity (£600-800)

Aeneas, Baron Mackay d’Ophemert and 10th Baron Reay (1806-76); Minister of State and a Member of the Lower House; Vice President of the Netherlands Royal Council; born Nijmegen 13 Jan. 1806, eldest son of Barthold John Christian Mackay and Anne Magdalen, Baroness de Renfesse de Wilp; married Maria Catharina Anna Fagel, daughter of Baron Fagel, PC, 1837; succeeded to the barony of Reay 1875, on the death of his cousin Eric, the 9th baron; died The Hague 6 Mar. 1876. His nephew, also named Aeneas (1838-1909) followed his uncle in Dutch politics, and became Prime Minister of the Netherlands.
