Italy, Lombardy and Venetia, Coronation of Emperor Ferdinand I, 1838, bronze medal by Luigi Manfredini, head right, reverse Coronation scene, 52mm (BDM III, p. 554). Good extremely fine (£20-30)

Luigi Manfredini (1771-1840), born at Bologna. For many years Professor of Medallic Art at the Milan Academy of Arts and engraver at Milan mint from 1798 to 1830, first as assistant and subsequently as chief engraver, cutting coin dies for the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy and later the Austrian province of Lombardy. Forrer speaks highly of his work, describing his medals as “of indisputable merit.”
