George III (1760-1820), Octognal countermarked Spanish 4-Reales, 1796, a copy of uncertain date. Very fine (£40-60)

A curious coin: both the coin and countermark are superficial of good style, the weight of the 4-Reales is far too heavy for it to be a genuine. Not a modern or contemporary counterfeit, in our belief, but perhaps made in the early years of the present century. Worthy of further research
