M.M. London Gazette 21 October, 1918 (Portuguese East Africa).
On the afternoon of 17 April 1918, 4/4 K.A.R., the leading battalion, became heavily engaged with three German companies hidden in tall elephant grass. Though new troops with little operational experience, the askaris maintained the attack supported by a company of the Gold Coast Regiment which took over the position the following day.
