Military Cross, G.V.R.; British War and Victory Medals (Capt., R.A.F.); 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; War Medal, nearly very fine (6)

M.C. London Gazette 11 December 1916.
According to the Regimental History Captain Openshaw served with the 12th battalion, East Surrey Regiment, and was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry on the Somme during the heavy fighting at Flers, 15th-17th September, 1916, during which he was wounded. He was again wounded in the battle for the Menin Road, 21st-23rd September, 1917.
