The Order of St. Michael and St. George, C.M.G., neck badge in silver-gilt and enamels; Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 6 clasps, Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Wittebergen (Capt., Worcester Rgt.); Coronation 1902, silver, good very fine (3)

Edward Bell was born 5 April, 1866, son of Major-General E.W.D. Bell, V.C., C.B., Royal Welsh Fusiliers, a Hero of the Alma. He was educated privately in Germany, joined the Warwick Militia in 1884, and the Worcester Regiment in 1886. He served during the South African Warr 1900, as Adjutant, C.I.V. Mounted Infantry; took part in operations in Orange Free State, February to May 1900, including operations at Paardeberg, actions at Poplar Grove, Driefontein, and Karee Siding; operations in Transvaal, May and June 1900, including Johannesburg, Pretoria and Diamond Hill; operations in Orange River Colony, including actions at Wittebergen (Despatches, Brevet Lieut.-Col., Queen’s medal with 6 clasps). Promoted Brevet Colonel in 1907 and was engaged in the Remount Service, August 1914 to November 1921, including D.A.D.R. in Western Command 1919-21 (C.M.G.). Colonel Bell was created a Freeman of the City of London in 1899, and died 5 February, 1937.
