The Hampshire Regiment, an unusual privately made engraved silve medal, central letters ‘V.B.’ enamelled in blue and red, surrounded by motto of the Garter and wreath, crown suspension and top bar inscribed ‘Hon. Colonel 1910’, the reverse inscribed ‘Lt. Col. C. De Winton, 1st Bn. The Hampshire Regt.’; together with: Salvation Army Long Service, silver and enamels, the reverse inscribed ‘Mrs. Commandant Herbert Lawton 1900’, nearly extremely fine (2)

Charles De Winton was Adjutant of the Volunteer Battalion 1903-04, and commanded the 1st battalion, Hampshire Regiment 1907-11. He took part in the landings at Suvla Bay and was severely wounded on 15 August, 1915. He was awarded the C.M.G. and given command of the 175th Infantry Brigade, retiring in December 1917 with the rank of Brigadier-General.
