Distinguished Service Medal, G.VI.R. (O.A.2, P/MX.51368) in its case of issue, extremely fine

D.S.M. London Gazette 1 January, 1946.
The Aircraft Carriers
Indefatigable, Illustrious, Victorious and Indomitable were with the British Pacific Fleet during Operation ‘Iceberg’, air strikes on the Sakishima Islands and the capture of Okinawa, 23 March to 25 May, 1945. On Easter sunday 1st April, 1945, Indefatigable was hit by a Zeke Kamikaze which dived into the base of her island, causing damage to the flight deck, sick bay, and flight deck armour. The flight deck was put temporarily out of action; within a remarkably short time, however, aircraft were again being operated though on a reduced scale. Four officers and 10 ratings were killed, 3 officers and 12 ratings wounded. Sold with some further details extracted from Admiralty Records and other research.
