M.I.D. (Posthumous) London Gazette 4 December, 1953. The Glosters received 42 M.I.D.’s for Imjin River, 14 of which were posthumous.
Private William Roberts was born in Salford, Lancashire, in 1917. He served with the 5th battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment in France and was taken prisoner near Dunkirk on 29 May, 1940. He was imprisoned in Stalag VIIIB near Gosel in south eastern Germany and was relaesed by allied forces in June 1945. Placed on the Army Reserve in 1946, he was recalled for service in Korea in September 1950. At the battle of Imjin River he served in No. 4 Platoon, commanded by Lieutenant G. T. Costello who was to win the Military Cross for his part in the action. Private William Roberts was officially recorded as killed in action 25 April, 1951, Imjin River, and is buried in the U.N. Military Cemetery at Tang Gok, Korea.
