A Battle of Cambrai M.C. group of three awarded to Captain R. H. Dalrymple, Scots Guards, for the Victoria Cross action at Partaing Mill
Military Cross, G.V.R.; British War and Victory Medals (Capt.) nearly extremely fine (3)

M.C. London Gazette 18 July, 1918. “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when all the officers of another company became casualties during an attack he took command of the company in addition to his own and displayed the greatest energy and ability throughout the action.”
Reginald Henry Dalrymple was commissioned Lieutenant, 7th Fife Btn. T.A., Black Watch, 13 November, 1914; T/Captain, 22 December, 1915; Lieutenant, 1st Scots Guards, 19 July, 1916. He served in the Battle of Cambrai 1917 and the 3rd Battle of Ypres 1918. Admitted to Hospital on 4 April, 1918, suffering from the effects of having been burned.
Captain Dalrymple commanded ‘B’ Coy. in the action on 27 November, 1917, and also later in the year commanded “C” Coy. The following extract is taken from the War Diary: ‘Action at Partaing Mill on the 27th Nov 1917, the enemy counter attacked but through the ability and example of Sgt McAulay who had assumed command of “C” coy after Lt Hon A. M. Kinnaird was killed, the attack was repelled. Sgt McAulay awarded the V.C.’
