John Arthur Neumann (later changed to Newman) was born on 18 January 1892, and appointed 2nd Lieutenant, Middlesex Regiment, 3 September 1913, and Lieutenant 14 October 1914. Curiously he is listed as a Half-Pay Officer on the Active List from that date for the remainder of the War.
