Bertie Cecil Smith Timms, killed in action 17.7.1916, Delville Wood. This was the scene of the baptism of fire of the South African Brigade of the 9th Scottish Division from July 14-20, 1916. This Brigade had a strength of 121 Officers and 3032 men when it went into action on the 15th July. When, at 6 a.m. on the 20th the Brigade was withdrawn, 29 Officers and 751 Other Ranks were all that were left. Sold with copies of Attestation Paper and extract from the War Diary.
