53rd (Shropshire) Regiment, a rare officer’s shoulder belt plate c1810-15 (not recorded by Parkyn), rectangular gilt back plate with silver mounts, a crowned garter, ‘Shropshire’ with ‘53’ within, laurel wreath surround, reverse with two hooks and two studs, and impressed with retailer’s mark ‘Prosser, Charing Cross’, gilt rubbed, the hook fasteners distorted, otherwise excellent condition for age £400-600

See Colour Plate VI

Though of similar description to the pattern Parkyn describes as, ‘the plate prior to 1855’ the quality and style of mounts clearly place this in the early 19th century, additionally ‘I. Prosser, Charing Cross’ is only in business at that address 1813-1825.
