A C.M.G., D.S.O. and Bar group of seven awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel T.T. Grove, Royal Engineers, for services in the Great War and subsequently in Finland and the Baltic States

Bar to D.S.O., London Gazette, 3 February, 1920. 'For distinguished service in connection with Military Operations in Finland and the Baltic States.'

Only 4 D.S.O’s for this Theatre, this being the only Bar.

Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Thackery Grove, C.M.G., D.S.O., was born in 1879, the son of a Minister, and entered the Royal Engineers in 1894. Promoted to Captain in 1907 and Major in 1915, he first saw active service out in France, winning by the War's end the D.S.O., seven mention in despatches, and the French Legion of Honour and Croix de Guerre. In addition he was created a C.M.G. in 1919. For his subsequent work out in the Baltic States (Estonia), he was mentioned in despatches for an eighth time and received one of only four D.S.O. awards for this theatre, his being unique as a Bar. He was Chief Engineer, Territorial Army Air Defence Formations, 1929-33, retired in 1933 and died in 1965.
