Believed to be connected with The Ancient British Fencible Cavalry raised towards the end of the 18th Century. On account of their ruthless actions during the Irish rebellion in 1797, they earned the nicknames 'Bloody Britons' and 'Sir Watkin's Lambs', the latter after their Colonel, Sir Watkin Williams Wynne, Bt.
