D.C.M., London Gazette, 14 January, 1916, details 11 March, 1916. 'For conspicuous gallantry. On the occasion of a listening post being surprised by an enemy officer’s patrol, Private Eaton, although wounded in the head, with great bravery remained at his post and opened rapid fire, which resulted in a non commissioned officer being killed and the remainder of the patrol, which was estimated at eight strong, being dispersed.'
