D.S.O., London Gazette, 10 December, 1919. 'For gallant leadership during the crossing of the Somme-Oise Canal and the capture of Landrecies on 4 November 1918. His battalion fought their way down to and crossed the canal against heavy opposition and helped to take Landrecies, capturing 200 prisoners, some guns, and many minenwerfer and machine guns. He did fine work.'

Lance-Corporal W. Amery of the 1/8th battalion was awarded the Victoria Cross for his gallantry during this same action. Lieut-Colonel Whitehouse was awarded the Croce de Guerra by the King of Italy for services rendered in holding up the Austrian offensive of June 20-23 1918. Sold with further research.
