Served in West Africa (S. Nigeria) 1901-1902 with the Aro Expedition, 12 October 1901, to 11 May 1902, as Orderly Officer to Colonel A.F. Montanaro, Commanding the Expedition. He was mentioned in despatches, London Gazette, 12 September, 1902. Approximately 134 European officers were engaged in the expedition, including Captain P.K. Carree and Lieutenant L.J. Jones of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment.
