D.C.M., London Gazette, 11 October, 1901, details 3 December 1901: Lance-Corporal Scattergood, 3rd Bn. Warwickshire Regiment (Mounted Infantry). Behaved most gallantly at Voorvitzicht, Orange River Colony, on 10 September 1901, in covering 2 wounded Officers remaining alone to protect them, and although himself wounded, succeeded in keeping enemy off. Promoted Corporal by Commander-in-Chief.
