SOUTH AFRICA 1834-53 (R. Wolfe, Royal Engrs. Dept. Grahamstown) 'Royal' has been engraved, otherwise about very fine

Shown on Gordon Everson's medal roll as Clerk of Engineers' Department, under the Commissariat. It is probable that the recipient erased 'Clerk' from the edge and replaced it with 'Royal'. Robert Wolfe served in the Kaffir wars of 1846-7 and 1850-52. He is shown in the 1905. Army List as retired on half-pay, Army Pay department, Staff Paymaster with Hon. rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
