Ireland, George III, Trinity College, Dublin, gold prize medal by J. Kirk, N. Marchant and T. Wyon obverse laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of George III right, georgivs iii pivs felix pater patriae reverse Muse holding lyre, standing left, crowning scholar with wreath, in exergue ausp: cels: princ: gul: fred: duc: de: gloucester: acad: cantab: cancell:, the edge engraved “Thomas Henry Steel B.A. Trin. Coll:”; 52mm, 93 gms., in contemporary leather case. Struck from rusty dies, slight hairlines, good extremely fine, attractive and rare.

The obverse design of this medal was used for the obverse of the Memorial to Lord Nelson Medal, 1807 (BHM 625), and the reverse for the obverse of the Cambridge University Chancellor’s Medal (BHM. 723).
