NAVAL GENERAL SERVICE 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Trafalgar (Richard Turner) some edge bruising and suspension slightly bent, otherwise very fine

Served as Landsman aboard H.M.S. Neptune at Trafalgar, which ship was third in line in the column led by Nelson in the Victory.

The Neptune took a prominent part in the battle, engaging several ships including the most powerful of all, the Santissima Trinidad. After the battle she was responsible for rowing the dismasted Victory to Gibraltar. Richard Turner was 'prest' from the privateer Harlequin on 4 November 1803, and discharged to the Neptune on the 27th of the same month. He was discharged from Neptune in December 1805, as 'unserviceable' which would indicate that he was either sick or wounded at Trafalgar. One other man of this name appears on the medal roll, a Boy present at Copenhagen on the Saturn.
