Charles John Allison Collyer served as Able Seaman aboard H.M.S. Ark Royal from April 1939 until March 1941. He transferred to Submarine duties in July 1942 and was aboard H.M.S/M. Surf during its successful patrols in the Far East. In February 1946 he was aboard H.M.S/M. Universal when the crew had to be rescued after the submarine was crippled in a severe gale in the Atlantic. The lot is sold with a large quantity of original documents photographs and cuttings including: Certificate of Service; Gunnery History Sheet; ISM. certificate; large pencil portrait of the recipient; numerous photographs of ships and submarines that he served on; scrap book of cuttings relating to H.M.S. Ark Royal; Matchbox holder with crest of H.M.S. Ark Royal, two books and a post war scrap book.
