Thomas Basil Fanshawe served with the 33rd Regiment in the Crimea from June 1855, including the siege of Sebastopol and assault of the Redan on the 18th June (medal with clasp and Turkish medal). He served as second in command with a wing of the regiment at the siege and occupation of Dwarka, Okamundel, in 1859; and in the Abyssinian campaign where he was present at the storming and capture of Magdala (Medal).
