D.C.M., London Gazette, 6 February, 1918. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in rescuing three wounded men from a burning gun pit. He collapsed and had to be carried to the dressing station. He has always displayed complete fearlessness and coolness, and set a fine example to the rest of the battery.'
