William Prescott Ross Wheatley was born in 1878 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Middlesex Regiment, on 4 December, 1901. He served in EastAfrica during the Somaliland campaign in 1903, and was present at the action at Jidhalli. He transferred to the Indian Army in 1904.
