A rare C.B. pair for the battle of Hyderabad awarded to General F.D. George, commanding H.M's 22nd Regiment

THE MOST HONOURABLE ORDER OF THE BATH, C.B. (Military) breast badge in 22 carat gold and enamels, complete with original wide suspension fittings and buckle, makers mark 'WN', date letter indistinct but probably 1845, in its original fitted case of issue by R.S. Garrard & Co., hinge broken on this; MEEANEE HYDERABAD 1843 (Captn. F.D. George, 22nd Regt.) contemporary re-engraved naming, fitted with replacement silver bar suspension and silver brooch with gold pin, the first nearly extremely fine,the second with light contact marks, otherwise dark toned and very fine (2)

General Frederick Darley George served throughout the campaign in Scinde in 1842-43 under Sir Charles Napier, including the destruction of Imaumghur in the desert, and the battles of Meeanee and Hyderabad, at which last he commanded the 22nd Regiment (Medal, Brevet of Major, Companion of the Bath). Served also throughout the campaign in the Southern Mahratta country and in the Southern Concan in 1844-45 and commanded a Corps of Detachments at the taking of the Petahs on the northern fronts of Panulla and Pownghur, and was present at the investment and capture of both these forts, being in command of the left flank post. Again during the operations against the Forts Munnahur and Munsontosh in the Southern Concan, he commanded the left wing of the 22nd Regiment, and afterwards commanded the Field Brigade at Kolapore. He was promoted General in October 1877 and appointed Colonel of the Cheshire Regiment on the 13th March, 1886. General George died sometime during 1889.
