Barrington F. Powys Pratt-Barlow served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in 1897-98 with the Tirah Expeditionary Force with the 1st Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment, and was present in the engagement at Chagru Kotal, at the capture of Dargai, the forcing of the Sampagha and Arhanga Passes, the reconnaissance of the Saran Sar, and the operations in the Waran and Bara Valleys (medal with two clasps). He became Adjutant of the 19th Middlesex Volunteer Rifles on 2 May, 1898.
