M.M. London Gazette 18 February 1943: ‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East during the period May 1942 to October 1942.’
‘This NCO was in charge of the wireless set working between 30 Corps and Bir Hacheim during the period 26 May -12 June, 1942. The set maintained important communications and handled vital operational traffic for over a week during which the position was subjected to heavy artillery fire and aerial bombardment. His detachment were many times compelled by circumstances to carry their messages to and from H.Q. across open ground under heavy fire. This duty was carried out with cheerfulness and despatch. By his willingness, cheerfulness and devotion to duty he contributed greatly to the success of the Signals in this difficult area.’
