D.C.M. London Gazette 26 September 1916 ‘For conspicuous gallantry during operations. With his officer and another man he went down the captured trench firing at and bayonetting the enemy, and ordered them to surrender. In this way they traversed 150 yards of trench and captured some thirty prisoners. Finally it was discovered that he had been wounded in four places.’

Raymond Ashby was born, lived and enlisted in Southampton, Hampshire. He was killed in action in France and Flanders on 7 October 1916 whilst serving with the 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers.
